KCS provides a successful, well developed K/PP programme.  The Pre Primary children attend 5 full days per week whilst the Kindy aged children have a choice of 2 full days per week, either a Tuesday/Thursday OR Wednesday/Friday group.

Active & Experiential Learning

Children of this age group mainly learn through play and develop their social skills through the interaction with other children and adults.   Therefore, our Kindergarten & Pre-Primary programmes involve hands-on, concrete and tactile activities, which facilitate their learning. Fun activities include craft, music, dance, art and even conducting scientific experiments! Many of them also learn how to take care of themselves, caring for others and playing well with each other.

Foundations for Literacy & Numeracy

Language and numeracy skills are critical for student's success at school - and the early years are vital in helping to provide a sound foundation in both literacy and numeracy for students to build upon.  In the K/PP class, literacy is incorporated in almost every activity that students participate - from learning to listen, to speaking, to becoming interested in books and stories. At the heart of this area is the desire to see children enjoy activities connected to literacy and numeracy - to help them see that learning is fun and exciting, and most of all, to give them the confidence to believe that they can learn the skills required.

The Pre-Primary students in the class receive extended teaching in the areas of Literacy and Numeracy.  Their  programme aims to prepare them for Year 1, where skills such as reading, phonics, numerical and alphabet recognition and many more are vital components of the programme.

Integrated Learning

The approach to facilitate learning is an integrated approach, whereby children learn about different learning areas in one session.  For example, a cooking lesson may involve the children learning about reading, measurement, energy and change as well as hygiene.  This approach also ensures that KCS complies with the requirements of the Department of Education and Training to cover the different learning areas in the Curriculum Framework.
