Upper Primary - this is where the fun begins! Upper Primary classrooms can be great places - a place where children begin to link their learning to the real world. A time where they can explore the world around them using skills they develop.

Philosophy of Teaching and Learning

Ensure our children develop their academic potential by creatively and independently devising, implementing and evaluating classroom and specialist curricula that focus upon proficiencies, procedures, values and content for each learning area.

Virtues Education

This is a programme used across the senior year groups to assist children to learn and develop a wide range of character qualities. Virtues such as honesty, self-control and responsibility, are highlighted throughout the year so that the children have the opportunity to understand these as essential elements to their character. Students learn to then practice these qualities with guidance and direction from their teachers.

Making Positive Choices

For year 7 students, this program is designed to support them in making astute choices and to put into practice the skills they have learnt during their time in primary school. The program covers making good choices in regard to their health and relationships, as they look towards adolescence and their high school years.

Engaged learning

Students are engaged in authentic and multidisciplinary learning tasks.  Education foundations are built and learning is broadened as students interact.  Children work collaboratively and autonomously towards achieving successful work and study habits.  Students are grouped based on similarity and diversity fostering a co-operative and empathetic learning environment.  Learning through exploration is encouraged.  Children learn to ‘have a go,’ and develop life-long learning strategies.  Assessment is based on students’ performances of real tasks, and new learning is then set in place.

Interactive learning

The interactive whiteboard is an exciting teaching and learning tool that enables anything you can do or see on a computer screen to be projected onto a whiteboard for all the class to interact with by touch.

An Interactive whiteboards have many benefits in our classroom, such as promoting active student engagement and motivation.  Using our interactive whiteboard has contributed to improved retention, facilitated effective review and improved student outcomes.
